About VI Services
Our team includes Itinerant Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), Orientation and Mobility Specialists (O&Ms), and specially trained Para-Educators. Our dedicated staff have expertise in early intervention and early childhood special education (EI/ECSE), multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness, assistive technology, behavior concerns, and much more. Our team provides direct instruction to students and consultative services to parents and educational staff.
Evaluation and Program Planning
- Assessment and eligibility determination for Visual Impairment, in collaboration with IEP teams (To start the referral process go through your classroom teacher)
- Evaluation and teaching in areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum
- IEP development, including goal writing, identifying accommodations and modifications
- Student-centered collaboration, working with both school and community-based service providers
Providing Accessible Materials, Equipment, and Assistive Technology
- Textbooks in braille, large print, digital and/or audio formats
- Low vision equipment including near and distance magnifiers, bold-line paper and slant boards
- Tactile materials such as braille rulers, raised line drawings and maps
- Selected technology developed for the visually impaired
- Working with IEP team to create alternative instructional and assessment materials
