Standards

Standards

The High Desert Education Service District partners with teachers in all subject areas at all grade levels to study, interpret and prioritize academic achievement/performance standards established by the Oregon Department of Education to drive OAKS testing and expectations.

Teachers and Administrators throughout Central Oregon have been participating in the training and Certification opportunities made available to them through the Oregon DATA Project and HDESD.
To date more than XXXX staff in the High Desert have been trained in Making Standards Work: a three day training to walk teachers and administrators through the:
• identification of the content standards they for their grade level and content area
• unwrapping of identified standards to better identify the key concepts and skills the students need
• prioritizing of the standards based upon their district/schools students’ OAKS results.
Through a grant from the Oregon Department of Education, Secondary teachers from the High Desert ESD, Harney ESD, Jefferson ESD and Lake ESD worked through this process over the course of the 2009-10 school year. Their work in both Math and Science lead to the prioritization of their standards as well as the development of Common Formative Assessments of the content and skills included in those standards.
