Creating a Culture of Higher Education and Training for Central Oregon

Creating a Culture of Higher Education and Training for Central Oregon

In May of 2011, High Desert Education Service District received a grant from The Oregon Community Foundation.  This grant was aimed at partnering with schools in Central Oregon to create a “Culture of Higher Education and Training.”  A college-going culture refers to the environment, attitudes, and practices in schools and communities that encourage students and their families to obtain the information, tools, and perspective to enhance access to and success in post-secondary education.  Following is a compilation of resources and exemplary programs currently available in Central Oregon High Schools.

1) Academic Rigor

2) High Expectations

3) Counseling

4) Social Support

5) Information

6) Early Intervention & Long-Term Support

7) Family Involvement & Cultural Sensitivity

8) Financial Assistance
