As the ski season comes to a close at Mt. Bachelor, a group of students from High Desert Education Service District (HDESD) had the opportunity to end the season on a high note — out on the snow, learning new skills and enjoying time together through adaptive ski lessons.
Throughout April, students with visual impairments participated in ski days in partnership with Oregon Adaptive Sports (OAS) and Mt. Bachelor. With the support of trained instructors and volunteers, students were able to navigate the mountain, build confidence, and experience the joy of being outdoors in a new way.
And in true Central Oregon fashion, they even caught a bit of fresh snow on their final day — a fitting sendoff to the season.
Experiences like these are made possible through the Blind and Visually Impaired Student (BVIS) Fund, along with generous support from community donors. Together, these resources help remove barriers and ensure students have access to meaningful, real-world learning opportunities outside the classroom.
HDESD’s Vision Services team plays a key role in making these experiences possible — working alongside students, families, and partners to create opportunities that build independence, connection, and confidence over time.
A sincere thank you to Oregon Adaptive Sports and Mt. Bachelor for their continued partnership and commitment to making outdoor recreation accessible to all students.
