High Desert ESD is excited to announce a $5,000 grant from First Interstate Bank to support scholarships for Drivers Education. This gift will help remove barriers for students who may not otherwise be able to access the program — expanding opportunity while strengthening safety across our schools and communities.

“At First Interstate Bank, we believe investing in young people is an investment in the health and safety of our whole community,” said Travis Browning, market president for First Interstate Bank’s Central Oregon and Gorge Market. “Supporting scholarships for Drivers Education is one way we can help ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn these essential skills, regardless of financial barriers.”

Drivers Education provides more than a license — it equips young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to stay safe on the road. For many families, however, the cost of the program is a significant hurdle. These new scholarships will ensure that more students can participate, regardless of financial circumstances.

“We see firsthand how important Drivers Education is for students and their families. These scholarships will open doors for students who might not otherwise be able to participate, and in turn, they’ll gain the skills and confidence to be safe, responsible drivers in our community,” said Nancy Haase program manager for HDESD’s High Desert Driver Education.

This investment directly advances HDESD’s Strategic Priorities on many levels by championing:

  • Students by giving them essential skills for independence and future success.
  • Relationships by partnering with community organizations like First Interstate Bank.
  • Equity by breaking down financial barriers to access.
  • Excellence by ensuring programs are safe, high quality, and impactful.

With this support, more students will have the chance to safely navigate the roads — creating ripple effects of safety, confidence, and opportunity for the entire community.
