HDESD’s CTE-STEM Career Connected Learning, led by Lisa Meredith, has partnered with Transition Network Facilitator Margie Blackmore to create an innovative hands-on career exploration class tailored for students in special education. Collaborating with Tara Morris, a special education teacher at Sisters High School, this pilot project immerses students in various trade careers through engaging weekly themes, including manufacturing, automotive, construction, fire science, health careers, business, culinary arts, and essential soft skills.
The program incorporates interactive career labs with Paxton Patterson kits, industry tours, and motivational guest speakers, providing students with valuable real-world experiences. As the course concludes, students will demonstrate their progress through resume building, mock interviews, personal presentations, and a celebratory event with their families, marking a significant step towards more inclusive and future-oriented career education.
