The High Desert Education Service District (HDESD) Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education team is proud to celebrate the Week of the Young Child (April 11-17) with a community event focused on play, literacy, and connection. This national week honors young children, their families, and the dedicated educators who support their growth every day.

The celebration will feature Tami Corbin, who will lead interactive music activities with live guitar, inviting children to explore rhythm and movement. Joining her is Deschutes County librarian Roxanne M. Renteria, who will provide engaging early literacy experiences through storytelling and books.

“Events like this bring our community together to celebrate our youngest learners and support their families,” said Avian Brown, HDESD Early Childhood Special Education Specialist. “By creating joyful, inclusive learning experiences, we ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

The event is a true community effort. A special thanks to our partners across the community, including Brooke Berry and her La Pine High School students, who will help prepare lunch and participate in activities. We are also grateful for the support of Kristin Rodriguez, Executive Director of Family Resource Center and delighted to welcome our neighbors from Rising Stars Preschool; as a community preschool located right here in our building, their presence adds a wonderful layer of peer connection and shared play to the day’s festivities
