Brenda Comini has been a guiding force in early childhood education across Central Oregon for many years. As the Early Learning Hub Director at HDESD, she has worked tirelessly to expand access to resources for families, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure that every child has a strong start in life.

Now, as Brenda prepares for a well-earned retirement, we celebrate her incredible contributions and welcome Krissa Harris, who stepped into the role in January of 2025.

Krissa brings a wealth of experience in education and leadership, having spent nearly two decades in higher education program development, community engagement, and student services. Most recently, she served as the Director of High School Partnerships at COCC, where she played a key role in strengthening connections between K-12 schools and postsecondary education.

Despite her background in higher education, Krissa has long been passionate about early learning. As a mother of three, she has witnessed firsthand the importance of early childhood support systems. This personal and professional passion inspired her to transition into this new role, where she will focus on expanding access to vital learning, health, and family support services for young children in Central Oregon.

“When families have the care and support they need, we see them thrive,” says Krissa. “I am excited to connect with the early learning community, listen to the needs of families, and build upon the incredible work that Brenda and the team have established.”

Krissa acknowledges that navigating a new early learning environment will be a challenge, but she is eager to learn, collaborate and grow alongside HDESD’s early learning partners.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Brenda Comini for her years of dedicated service and leadership. Her efforts have transformed early learning opportunities for countless children and families across the region. At the same time, we are excited for the next chapter with Krissa Harris at the helm.

Welcome, Krissa!
