The High Desert Education Service District offers a wide variety of services for students and families. Services range from general education support to special education support and family resources.

Home School

The High Desert Education Service District Home School office registers and provides support for home schooled students and their parents who reside in Crook and Deschutes counties. Services include general consultation and information about home schooling, monitoring of overall compliance with home school notification and testing requirements and maintenance of student records. Oregon Mexico Education Program (OMEP)

The High Desert Education Services District provides resources for Hispanic adults and families through the Oregon Mexico Education Partnership (OMEP) project. Community Centers called "Plaza Comunitaria" offer literacy programs and resources in Spanish as well as English instruction for Spanish-speaking adults and students ages 14 and older. Books, videos and on-line study courses for all levels of literacy from beginning to continuing education are available. The Plazas are sponsored through a unique partnership between the State of Oregon, Oregon Department of Education and the Mexican Government.

The High Desert Education Service District provides speech and language services for children from birth to five years who need specialized instruction in the area of communication. The High Desert Education Service District provides Occupational and Physical Therapy Services for children birth to 21 years with disabilities. These services range from assessment and evaluation to individual coaching, assistive technology and environmental support. The High Desert Education Service District offers services to high-need, first-time parents of children birth to 3 years. Healthy Beginnings

The High Desert Education Service District partners with Healthy Beginnings to ensure that children enter kindergarten healthy and prepared to learn. Services include health, developmental and behavioral screenings for all children birth to 5 years and are provided by professional volunteers and experts. There is no income or insurance requirement for the services. All families are encouraged to schedule a screening.

Family Access Network (FAN)

The High Desert Education Service District partners with Family Access Network (FAN) to ensure that children attend school ready to learn. FAN advocates work in local schools in Deschutes County to address basic needs including but not limited to food, shelter and medical care.

Vision Services

The High Desert Educational Service District offers a number of services for children from birth to 21 years who have visual impairments. These services are provided by professional educators who have post graduate training in education for the visually impaired.  Service begins with an assessment to determine a child's eligibility and need. If a child is found eligible, an individualized educational plan (IEP) is developed that identifies specialized areas of instruction, equipment, or services. Read more...

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

The High Desert Education Service District partners with local school districts, the Teaching Research Institute and the Oregon Department of Education to identify students birth to 21 with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Central Oregon, and provide them with support and services to improve their education and overall quality of life. First Step to Success

The High Desert Education Service District's First Step to Success program offers  positive behavioral intervention for kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms. Referrals to the program are made by teachers, school administrators or counselors who work in partnership with First Step to Success staff and students in the classroom. The goal of the program is to teach and reinforce classroom skills necessary for long term success at school. Read more...
