HDESD offers Foreign Language Interpreters and Translation Services

High Desert Education Service District News Item

This High Desert Education Service District (HDESD) program provides foreign language written translation and oral interpretation services to students, families, teachers and staff from the school districts and HDESD. The program currently offers several highly trained and qualified on-site interpreters and translators for Spanish, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and now Purépecha (language of an indigenous people from Michoacán, Mexico).

Phone interpretation is also available for several other languages through an International Language Bank.The HDESD’s Foreign Language Interpreter and Translation Program has a contract with the International Language Bank from IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization), which is based in Portland. Through IRCO, the program provides translations and phone interpretations in languages other than Spanish, Chinese and Purepecha. Bend-La Pine and Redmond School Districts have made requests for Vietnamese and Russian interpreters in the past two years and the program has received positive feedback from providers.
