Classroom meets (after school or evening) once a week for 10 weeks during fall, winter, or spring
terms. The dates and times are listed on the registration form and on the
individual site schedules. Behind-the-wheel labs meet for 1 ½ hour sessions
once a week for 8 weeks during fall, winter, and spring - 2 students per car
. {More information regarding the summer schedule will be
available soon}. [Sisters and La Pine lab times will vary in length from 1 -
3 hours.] Behind-the-wheel labs will take place after school or weekends.
To earn a certificate of completion with an official ODOT seal (qualifies
for insurance discounts with some companies and counts for 50 hours of
practice driving when students get their license at the DMV) students must
attend and pass 30 hours of classroom and 12 hours of behind-the-wheel
training/observation.

All absences must be made up. We will try to accommodate make ups without an additional fee charged, but if an instructor must be hired to meet with students to do a make up outside of the normal session, a fee of $25 to $50 will be required per make-up. ($25 - if prior notice within 24 hours of absence was given; $50 - if no prior notice is given - NO SHOW)

To provide quality driver
education and training that meets or exceeds the requirements set by the
Oregon Department of Transportation. With the completion of the course, the
students will be equipped with information, habits, and skills to
successfully begin their driving career. The program will be offered
year-round to provide more flexibility for students, families, and busy
schedules.

To obtain a refund (less a $10 handling fee), you must call or email
the High Desert Driver Education Program, prior to the first
day of class (see phone number or email addresses below). After classes begin, refunds will be
pro-rated based on class sessions attended and will include a $75 drop fee.

Students must be 15-17 years of age with a valid Oregon instructional permit and must register and pay the program fee of $280.
Students age 18; or have a driver's license; or have graduated from high school; or have a GED, must register and pay the program fee of $280 plus an additional $210 for a total of $490. They are charged this additional fee because ODOT will not reimburse the program for students with these characteristics.
If a student obtains their driver's license during their class session, they must pay an additional $210 for a total of $490.
Students/parents may pay the program fee when registering online by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Students/parents may also register by downloading and printing the registration form and sending it with a check to High Desert Drivers Education Program, c/o High Desert ESD, 145 SE Salmon Ave, Redmond, OR 97756 |

Funding for the program comes from two
sources: students' tuition and reimbursement from the Oregon Department of
Transportation. The local school districts do not fund the program, BUT provide
classroom space, free of charge
