Early Childhood Special Education

The High Desert Education Service District partners with local school districts to provide services to families and  young children (birth - 5) who are at risk or have special education needs. Support is available for early childhood behavioral issues, autism and other special needs.

 

Applied Behavioral Analysis

The High Desert Education Service District partners with the Bend LaPine and Redmond school districts and Early Childhood Special Education to provide behavior-based strategies for teaching young children (ages 2-9) with autism and other disabilities.  Using a process called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the partnership serves children with autism spectrum disorders as well as those with behavioral disorders, multiple disabilities and severe intellectual handicaps.


Assistive Technology

The High Desert Education Service District Assistive Technology Resource Center provides assistive technology devices and services to students with disabilities who need them to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).

The Assistive Technology Resource Center provides support to Central Oregon EI/ECSE programs and school districts through Assistive Technology services, training, consultation and equipment loan and acquisition.

 

Autism Spectrum Disorder

The High Desert Education Service District supports local school districts and Early Childhood programs by providing services for students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Theses programs are available from the time a student is identified, through high school graduation or 21 years of age as needed. Services include evaluation, teaching support, consultation and a resource library.

 

Deaf & Hard of Hearing

The High Desert Education Service District offers a number of services and resources for children and students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Services range from evaluation and assessment to specialized instruction and serve several age groups. Having these services available locally allows students to get the specialized education and materials they need for successful learning.

 

Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education

The High Desert Education Service District provides early childhood developmental support for children birth to 5 years of age (prior to kindergarten). Services include screening, evaluation, and specially designed instruction for young children with special needs in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties.

Traumatic Brain Injury

The High Desert Education Service District partners with local school districts, the Teaching Research Institute and the Oregon Department of Education to identify students birth to 21 with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Central Oregon, and provide them with support and services to improve their education and overall quality of life.

 

Vision Services

The High Desert Educational Service District offers a number of services for children from birth to 21 years who have visual impairments. These services are provided by professional educators who have post graduate training in education for the visually impaired. Service begins with an assessment to determine a child's eligibility and need. If a child is found eligible, an individualized educational plan (IEP) is developed that identifies specialized areas of instruction, equipment, or services.
